The Parent Action Committee (“PAC”) is a parent-driven committee created to foster a sense of community within the school and a network for parents to participate in their child’s Columbus Pre-School experience. PAC provides supportive and fun enrichment activities to our own Columbus Pre-School community as well as coordinates the parents’ efforts to give back to our larger New York City community.
What types of enrichment activities does PAC lead above and beyond the School’s fabulous programs:
• Community ‘Tis the Season Food, Clothing and Toy Drives
• Community Fund Raising Activities – for example, the Haiti Relief Efforts
• Dental Visit; Fireman Visits
• Nature Center Class Visits
• Recycle Week Enrichment Activities
• Parent Events and Receptions
• Teacher Appreciation Activities
• Music Enrichment Activities
How can you get involved?
PAC’s hard-working parent volunteers continue to make each year an even bigger success.
There are several areas where you can get involved?
• Class Parent
Each year, we are looking for two parents from each class to volunteer as Class Parents. The main role of a Class Parent is to communicate with other parents from your class and advise them on upcoming Pre-school & PAC functions. Class Parents will also coordinate in-class volunteering, help encourage snack volunteers and coordinate the Teacher Appreciation Week, Year-End and holiday git projects from the class.
• Role of Class Parent
• Create a sense of community within your class
• Act as a liaison between PAC and the parents of your class
• Act as a liaison between your child’s teacher and the parents of your class
• Communicate with parents about upcoming PAC and school events, school closings
• Coordinate a “Get to Know Your Class” event/picnic outside of the school
• Collect PAC dues
• Volunteer
Throughout the year, the Parent Action Committee will facilitate a number of school-wide events. Our events are only as successful as the efforts from the PAC volunteers. Please contact your Class Rep or PAC for further details.
This school year promises to be even better and busier! In addition to continuing our successful events from last year, PAC has a host of new initiatives planned for the year. Working together, we can make this already fabulous school and community even better.
